Route around Utena region
The route is intended for the group of around 30 persons who want to become acquainted
with the environs of Utena.
We come to Leliūnai, the Museum of Ceramics of Mr V.Valiušis. We visit his workshop
where we can try making a pot of clay, to see how ceramic articles are made and decorated.
Travelling further we go along St. Petersburg -Warsaw highway. We visit the oldest in
Utena brick building, architectural monument, complex of buildings of horse-post station
of the first class. Now here is a school of art where the gallery of art Rūsys is
open.
Dinner at the café Abu. The café is included into the network of Culinary
Heritage.
Further we come to the Wedding Hill where the ancient Lithuanian wedding is represented by
the means of oak sculptures.
Now we turn towards Sudeikiai. In Sudeikiai we visit the gallery of art. We take a drive
in the ancient horse-carriage around the environs, rent a boat or water-bicycle and sail
on Lake Alauas. In the Lake there still live vendaces (Coregonus albula). Even in old
days the locals used to catch them and pickle (it is supposed that the name of the
township Sudeikiai is descended from the pickled vendaces (in Lithuanian sūdyta
seliava).
Road of Vendace in Lake Alaušas*: pulling of nets with vendaces, surprises and
attractions.
Supper in the café Abu Alaušo Prieglobstyje and cultural program with games, songs
and dances. At the desire of group the program can be longer and the sauna can be heated
by the Lake. The group is lodged for the night in country tourism farmsteads.

Route length: 35 km. Duration: 1 day
Price: 67 Lt per person. Included: dinner, supper, Road of Vendace, cultural
program.
Not included: transport, sauna (120 Lt for one evening), lodging, additional services
(horse-carriage, water-bicycles).
* If there are any juveniles in the group the boats are rowed by rowers.
